Things to Do in Como (Lake Como): A Food Lover’s Day
Como is best taken slowly. Here’s how we’d build the perfect day for food lovers: a morning market, a walk along the lake, the view from Brunate, an Italian aperitivo — and, right in the middle of the day, a small-group cooking class.
Morning: market and coffee
Start with a cappuccino at a café in the historic centre, then wander the stalls: cheeses, cured meats, bread, seasonal fruit. It’s the best way to understand what locals actually cook.
Late morning: the lakefront and the cathedral
Head to the lake promenade and the Como Cathedral (Duomo). A few minutes is enough to feel the rhythm of the town before the serious business begins: food.
Midday: a cooking class
This is our favourite part of the day. In a cooking class in Como you make fresh pasta by hand and a classic tiramisù with our chefs, in a small group, a short walk from the centre. You leave with a real skill — and a great memory.
Afternoon: Brunate by funicular
Take the Brunate funicular for a spectacular view over the lake. A short ride, a big reward — the perfect way to walk off lunch.
Evening: aperitivo and gelato
Finish with an aperitivo by the water — an Aperol Spritz and a few bites — then a gelato as you walk. Simple, Italian, perfect.
The plan at a glance
- Morning: coffee + historic-centre market.
- Late morning: lake promenade + Duomo.
- Midday: small-group cooking class.
- Afternoon: Brunate funicular for the view.
- Evening: lakeside aperitivo + gelato.
