Cooking Class from Bellagio – Hand-Rolled Pasta in Como

Bellagio is the pearl of the lake — and a beautiful base for a morning or afternoon of pasta. Our class is in central Como, an easy ferry or hydrofoil ride down the lake, where you knead, roll and eat what you make.

Bellagio, Lake Como

From Bellagio to our table in Como

Bellagio sits mid-lake, on the headland where the two branches fork, so reaching Como is part of the pleasure. The fast ferry or hydrofoil runs straight down the Como branch in about 45–55 minutes; the slow car ferry and steamer take roughly two hours but turn the journey into a scenic cruise past Villa Carlotta and the western shore. By car it is about 50 minutes along the lake road. From the Como ferry landing at Piazza Cavour we are a short, flat walk inland to Via Teresa Ciceri 10A, a few minutes from the Duomo. We taught in English and French as well as Italian, so language is never a barrier.

Make a day of it on the way

It is easy to pair the class with the best of Bellagio and the mid-lake before or after you sail down to Como:

  • Wander the stepped lanes — Salita Serbelloni and its neighbours — for ceramics, silk and a coffee before the boat
  • Walk the gardens of Villa Melzi along the water, or book a guided visit to the grounds of Villa Serbelloni
  • Reach Punta Spartivento, the very tip of the promontory, where you can see both arms of the lake at once
  • Land at Piazza Cavour in Como and stroll the lakefront and historic centre — the Duomo and the old walls — straight to our door

Travelling as a couple or on honeymoon? Bellagio's romance carries nicely into a pasta bench for two — see our cooking class for couples.

What you'll cook

Each guest kneads their own dough ball of flour and eggs; while it rests there is a spritz lesson — you build your own Aperol or Campari spritz and drink it as the aperitivo — then you hand-roll the sfoglia with the wooden rolling pin and shape your pasta. Everyone sits down to eat what they made, finishing with gelato dressed with a few drops of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP from Acetaia del Cristo. The method comes from Rina Poletti's Accademia della Sfoglia, where our resident chef trained; read more on our story. Choose your dish:
